Our Senior Ladies collected their first piece of Silverware for 2014 last Saturday night when they won the All County West League Final against Athea in Tournafulla. Mungret went in to the game missing some of the more well known players. The first half was an even enough contest between the two teams with both side exchanging scores over the first 20 minutes. Kate Mulqueen got Mungret’s first score with great individual point when Marie Claire Curtin buried the ball in the back of the net and soon after gave the crowd an exhibition on how to convert frees with a super point. Lisa Garvey scored a long range goal and Athea responded to even the sides. Before the break Kate Mulqueen kicked over another point and Marie Claire Curtin converted another free to see Mungret lead at half time 2-4 to 2-2. The second half saw Mungret start better with points from Kate Mulqueen 0-1, Claire Coughlan 0-2, Marie Claire Curtin 0-2 and Megan O’Malley 0-1. Olivia Giltenane ensured Athea’s scoring was to a minimum with some great defending and clearances. Athea scores two goals but this was cancelled out by Mairead Clancy’s 1-1 and the game was killed off by Marie Claire Curtin who scored two goals in the last few minutes to see Mungret win on a score line Mungret 6-11 Athea 4-2. Susan Fitzgerald accepted the cup on behalf of the team who will play in the All County League Final more than likely next week end against St.Ailbes. Well done to the team on the night of Catherine Murphy, Aisling Dee, Olivia Giltenane, Fiona Mangan, Susan Fitzgerald, Lisa Garvey, Claire Coughlan, Aine Coughlan, Kate Mulqueen, Marie Claire Curtin, Mairead Clancy, Triona Bannon, Kate McSweeney, Aine Ryan, Niamh O’Keeffe, Megan O’Malley, Marita O’Brien and Aisling Keogh.
